Payment of Rent

Tenants are usually not permitted to withhold rent payments unless the owner fails to correct a condition that creates a danger to the tenant’s health or safety after being given notice by the tenant. Rent may also include certain additional payments due the landlord, such as direct payment to the landlord of utilities. One should not ordinarily withhold rent without first consulting an attorney.
