Landlord/Tenant

Subleasing

Most written leases require tenants to obtain the owner’s consent prior to subleasing or assigning to another person. Even if the lease is oral, the owner’s consent to subleasing is probably required. After obtaining the owner’s permission, and the move-in of the subtenant, a tenant may still remain responsible for the rest of the lease term unless released by the owner.
